Craig
Smiths warm, exuberant illustrations
have delighted children for over 25 years.
With several award-winners to his credit,
his titles appear regularly on Childrens
Choice Award shortlists.
Finding
humour in domestic, family and school situations,
and a fondness for unusual perspectives and
energetic characterisation are features of
his work.
Craig
grew up in South Australia and studied graphic
design at the SA School of Art.
While
his early aim to be a political cartoonist
never came to be, he has now produced nearly
300 picture books, junior novels and educational
readers.
His
best known titles include the classics Whistle
Up the Chimney (winner of the NSW Premiers
literary award), Dreadful David, Wheres
Mum? and Jessica Carrolls Billy
the Punk (winner of the Cool,
Koala and Yabba childrens
choice awards.
Craig's
books for Word Weavers include Intergalactic
Heroes by James Moloney, and Spaceman
Bill by Victor Kelleher which is listed
in the Children's Book Council of Australia,
Book of the Year Awards as a 'notable' book
for 2005-2006..
