I
can say that the illustrations for The
Giant Scrub Python were drawn from memory.
I
spend most of my childhood in the Australian
bush, so Grace MacDonald Baldwin's writing
brings back vivid memories of country life
and country people.
In
my drawings I have referred to real people
in my life, especially the boys' fathers;
but I must confess that I have never met anyone
quite like Ed.
Isn't
it good to have a real villain in a story?
I
was very pleased to be the artist chosen to
illustrate this book, not only because of
the memories, but also because I like the
way it is written.
That
makes the job of illustrating so much easier.
